In 1915, an oak cask containing a blend of the finest tawnies the company possessed was set aside for the exclusive use of the Penfold family. This became known as 'the Grandfather' due to the great age of the oldest tawnies in the blend. Penfolds Grandfather Liqueur Tawny, a blend of the finest old tawnies and aged in small oak casks, honours this proud tradition and is Australia's leading example of this style. The rich yet delicate fruit character harmonises perfectly with pronounced aged rancio complexity to produce a truly remarkable aged liqueur tawny. Individual components are given extended maturation in small oak barrels in Penfolds Kalimna Tawny Cellar in the Barossa Valley before an extremely strict barrel selection process. The best barrels are carefully blended to create Penfolds Grandfather. Deep amber - mahogany in colour with the green gold tinges indicative of great age. The nose is extremely complex and fragrant, possessing an array of nutty, vanillin, aged characters melding seamlessly with hints of raisined fruit, malt and lifted spirit. The palate effortlessly displays the famed attributes of great Liqueur Tawny; luscious, rich and full flavoured with mouthfilling viscosity and a slightly dry finish. KAH Tequila Reposado is an ultra smooth, and ultra high-proof Tequila with a full body, and intense Agave favor. It is aged for ten months in French limousine casks, where it acquires subtle hints of vanilla and caramel. The KAH Tequila Reposado bottle is painted as "El Diablo". The use of devil imagery was inspired by Day of the Dead celebrations in Peru. The festival takes place the week before November 5th on the banks of Lake Titicaca, The traditional dances (complete with dangling red crucifixes) are rumored to be led by the devil himself. Traditional dances are dedicated to Satan. This region of Peru is mostly a mining area and workers spend much time underground. According to ancient Incan beliefs, Satan lives underground making the miners vulnerable to his powers due to their daily proximity. The festival is designed to honor Satan, thus keeping the workers safe. The even pour Tequila on the ground for the devil to drink. KAH Tequila was designed to pay reverence and honor to Mexico and its people. Its bottle and spirit are reflective of Day of the Dead, the 3,000 year-old Meso-American ritual honoring deceased loved ones. KAH Tequila Blanco contains intense sweet notes of the cooked agave, followed by a spicy white peppery punch. It is silky and delicate, leaving a sachet of spices on the palate. Sugar skulls are given to family still living and they are invited to "eat their own death", to acknowledge the belief that death is nothing but the passing from this life into the next. Bolivians celebrate their version of the Day of the Dead by keeping the skulls of their loved ones, calling it the "Day of the Skulls". These decaying heads are brought out each year on November 8th and taken to the cemetery where Bolivians feed them, give them cigarettes and Tequila. Keeping and entertaining the skulls of their deceased is seen as a way for the dead to be immortalized. They believe the skulls of their ancestors protect the living by warding off evil spirits.
