Following a dramatic packaging makeover of its ‘standard’ blend, Whyte & Mackay has introduced a new aged blended expression, namely The Thirteen. This replaces the existing 12-year-old blend, and according to its creator, Master Blender Richard Paterson, “Thirteen may be seen as an unlucky number, but it’s very lucky for our consumers. The extra year that the malt whiskies in this blend have spent maturing in Sherry casks before being married with the grains gives it an extra mellowness and smoothness.” On the nose The Thirteen is more muscular than the ‘standard’ blend, with stewed fruit and Sherry notes.
