This became known as 'the Grandfather' due to the great age of the oldest tawnies in the blend. Penfolds Grandfather Liqueur Tawny, a blend of the finest old tawnies and aged in small oak casks, honours this proud tradition and is Australia's leading example of this style. The rich yet delicate fruit character harmonises perfectly with pronounced aged rancio complexity to produce a truly remarkable aged liqueur tawny. Individual components are given extended maturation in small oak barrels in Penfolds Kalimna Tawny Cellar in the Barossa Valley before an extremely strict barrel selection process.
