Pinot Noir

  • Brannock Brae Pinot Noir 2008 NZD $24.99
Our Goldfields Pinot noir 2008 has flavours of cherries, plums, and berries. Behind these primary flavours there is an interesting hint of herbs, mushroom, and even liquorice complementing its velvety mouthfeel. All this is integrated with just the right balance of acid; and tannins - partly from the grapes themselves, and also judicious use of French oak barrels.
  • Mondillo Pinot Noir 2010 NZD $44.00
The 2010 Pinot Noir, is rich dark and delicious. Beautifully centered with blackberry and plum flavours, a hint of spice, toasted oak and a velvety finish. Wild bunnies couldn't drag us away from the vintage.
  • Grasshopper Rock 2009 Pinot Noir NZD $32.00

A single-vineyard red, matured in French oak barrels, it is deep and rich, with ripe cherry, plum, herb and spice flavours, hints of raisins and coffee and good, savoury complexity.

  • Mt Difficulty Pinot Noir 2010 NZD $45.00

A warm, low-yielding vintage has produced a Pinot Noir displaying ripeness concentration and balance; dark fruits of the forest dominate the aroma and these are underpinned by lifted florals and black cherry, balanced with sweet aromatic spice notes. The wine has a ripe concentrated front palate, which displays these same characters in abundance. The mid palate is fleshy and well textured, and the wine finishes with a combination of ripe, fine-grained tannin, fruit and acidity.

    Cellaring Potential:

Mt Difficulty Estate Pinot Noir will improve for 7-10 years given optimal vintage and cellaring conditions.

    Vintage 2010:

Excellent concentration, with the hallmarks of a warmer season – concentrated ripe dark fruit mingled with a touch of red fruit and a splash of savoury spice!

A nicely odd-ball vintage with warm conditions being over-ruled by ongoing winds and rapidly changing weather systems. Low initial bunch numbers coupled with the climatic variability led to yields being down by about 20% on average. A fantastic autumn helped bring the grapes through their last phase of ripening beautifully. Harvest was the latest we have ever experienced with first fruit not being picked till the 8th April. The blocks which are typically early were late, whilst our later blocks were harvested about their normal timeframe, leading to a very compacted busy vintage.

  • Wooing Tree Pinot Noir 2009 NZD $39.00

Ripe hand picked fruit, gentle winemaking and maturation in French oak have resulted in a complex and powerful wine. It has aromas of ripe cherried and plums, a rich and silky smooth palate and a long spicy finish. A great examle of one of the best Central Otago Pinot Noirs.

  • Deep Cove Pinot Noir 2008 NZD $33.00
Deep Cove lies 30 kilometres from the open sea, at the head of Doubtful Sound in the pristine Fiordland National Park. Guarded by mountains rising to 1500 metres that surround spectacular fiords, this stunning wilderness is a long-time fishing and diving locale for the Quider family, owners of Wild Earth. Crafted from their Bannockburn vineyards and blended with selected grapes from outstanding Central Otago vineyards.
  • Lobster Reef Pinot Noir 2008 NZD $16.00
A delicious fruit driven style with raspberry and black cherry flavours, and a hint of plum. Enjoy with a fish dish. A light Pinot Noir, but very tasty.
  • Blind Trail Pinot Noir 2009 NZD $24.90

Smoky herbs and macerated cherries on the nose lead into a dry savoury palate with spicy fruit and a long finish. The legacy continues into the new vintage!

  • Strugglers Flat Pinot Noir 2008 NZD $27.00

The bright ruby colour reflects the ripe, warm berry fruits, plum, spice & herbs on the nose. The fleshy ripe fruits on the structured palate are complemented by balanced acidity, nice savoury notes, and fine tannins.

  • Bird Pinot Noir 2008 NZD $34.00
Acting as both a fermentation vessel and storage vessel these 900lt barrels provide a unique and sophisticated environment for the production of Pinot Noir. They impart a high degree of complexity to the wine, facilitating seamless integration of the oak and generating excellent structure. The "Big Barrels" allow for extremely gentle handling of the wine resulting in the preservation of even the most delicate flavours and aromas. Full round and assertive, generously laced with dark ripe fruit. There are hints of earth, and spices on the palate. The structure is firm and masculine with ample tannins to create excellent mouth feel and provide a great platform for this wine to age for many years to come.
