Ostler Caroline's Pinot Noir 2011
|
2011 was a cool year with excellent slow-ripened fruit. The vines at 9 years old were really getting their roots down into the limestone substrate and the wine shows the effect with magnificent perfumed aromas and enhanced minerality. The usual long finish with fine tannins contribute to a wine which, although young, shows the hallmarks of very fine pinot noir indeed.
Gold at IWC (London) 2013
Given 96/100 by Bob Campbell MW in 'Australian Gourmet Traveller- Wine',
Caroline's Pinot Noir Caroline Plummer was an extraordinary vital young woman of great energy, beauty and elegance. Her passion was the study of dance and its healing values. She assisted in planting of the original block - Caroline's. In 2003 before her untimely death from a rare malignancy she gave her name to the first pinot noir. Caroline's Pinot Noir has become our flagship wine. It is made in the years when the season allows grapes which meet our rigorous quality standards. Ripe fruit, spiciness, savoury aromas satisfying palate weight, minerality, velvet tannins. Extraordinary persistence. Elegance. A wonderful tribute to a wonderful young woman.
