Winner of 96 Points in James Halliday Australian Wine Champions 2015.
Rich ripe cassis and blackberry fruit nose integrated with cedar, nutmeg and cinnamon nuances through maturation in predominantly French oak. The wine proudly shows its Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon pedigree.
The palate displays an excellent depth and persistence of rich dark mulberry fruit with ripe, long tannins. It is full flavoured yet retains elegance and finesse.
This wine will best match full flavoured meals, such as tender pink lamb back strap, a rich risotto or full flavoured game.

Deep inky colour. The nose is deep and richly layered with aromas of dark plum, black cherry stone and hints of new leather. On the palate there is great density and richness with black berry fruit notes. The palate flows well and is fine and supple, with complexity unfolding into a harmonious finish. This palate promises great riches after patient cellaring
2013 Vintage: Hawke's Bay A&P Wine Awards (Silver)
2013 Vintage: Jane Skilton (93 points)
2013 Vintage: Cameron Douglas MS (5 stars)
This is a blend of 46% Merlot, 45% Malbec and 9% Cabernet Franc from the Gimblett and Triangle Vineyards. The grapes were hand harvested, carefully destemmed and fermented in numerous small batch ferments over a 3 week period then gently pressed to oak barriques.
Slow malolactic fermentation in barrel and minimal intervention has created a full, ripe and well balanced wine with a core of ripe fruit and excellent structure.
2013 was an exceptional vintage with perfect growing conditions allowing us to make wines of very high quality and age ability.
The wine can be enjoyed now and will cellar f...more »or ten years from harvest.
Raymond Chan 5 star wine review.
This unfiltered wine is warm and generous on the palate with lifted fragrant fruits of plums and violets. A power packed wine with deep damson hues and dense layers of spice and oak. This is a wine which will be approachable early in its youth, but will age wonderfully for 3-10 years. Drink earlier for a more fruit driven style. Perhaps our greatest Malbec blend to date.
Deep vibrant colour. Fresh aromas of blackcurrant and blackberry with floral notes and some subtle oak. The palate is smooth and rounded with rich ripe fruit nicely coated with some fine dusty tannin. The wine has a long refreshing finish.
Ruby red colour on release. Showing varietal aromas of boysenberry and plums. A medium bodied Merlot with vibrant fruit and supple tannins, with tones of chocolate and tobacco leaf and underlying spicy, toasty oak.
Deep garnet color. Aromas of ripe plum and raspberry with cedar and vanilla notes. Fine soft tannin belies the palate’s weight, the wine is soft and full with bright acids giving an overall impression of power and persistence. Spice and complexity is gained via the Cabernet Franc portion of the blend.
The 2014 Syrah is made fro grapes off our Gimblett, Triangle and Te Awanga Vineyards. Syrah is one of our flagship varieties and with the exceptional 2014 vintage we had top quality grapes to work with.
Textured tannins with dark chocolate beneath a pastiche of coffee, apricot and liquorice.
Australia's most popular grape varietal, Shiraz is full-bodied with high alcohol, and vibrant berry and plum on both the nose and palate. Australia's hot summers and cooler winters impart a complexity and structure that collects well and is a worldwide favorite.
Shiraz is described as robust and spicy with a slightly sweet finish. You will also enjoy a velvety and slightly syrupy mouthfeel when enjoying this varietal.
The slick and affordable The Barry Brothers Shiraz Cabernet is a plush drink now all-terrain red from one of Australia's most loved producers, Jim Barry. Assembled from Clare Valley Shiraz and Cabernet, expect plenty of sweet dark fruit alongside a beautifully structured palate that can tackle even the toughest challenges the barbeque can dish up.
Winner of Gold Medal Royal Hobart Wine Show, and a silver medal for the great australian red.
Smoky undertones with ripe blackberry, licorice, vanilla and spice.
Creamy and super-decadent on the palate, this wine has the weight of a wine four times its price and flavours of plums, boysenberries and cream emerge with cocoa-flecked tannins. Enjoy with hearty food between now and 2020.
This is the most recommended bottle of wine in our store. Ash's favourite.
Deep purple in colour. Ripe cassis and black plum fruits on the nose with violets. Varietal fruit-driven palate, with cassis and dark berryfruit and spice flavours. Soft tannins compliment the fruit with mouth-filling generous finish.

From the people who make Chocolate Box, Rocland Estate have done it again with this Aussie blockbuster style that is sure to please. Apart from the cheeky name and label, this wine is fantastic value for money. The 2009 was awarded a gold medal at the NZIWS and the new vintage is just as amazing. Opulently scented with creamy vanillin oak and chocolate and juicy, full-bodied, gutsy flavours crammed with blackberry and cherry fruit, mint and eucalypt with a flourish of spice and pepper.
Made from selected fruit from family owned vineyards in the Northern Barossa Valley.
This wine showcases classical Barossa black fruit characters with dark chocolate flavours. Matured for 2 years in a combination of French and American oak barrels.
Intense youthful fresh ripe berry fruit flavours with some well integrated vanillian oak. Full bodied dense ripe berry fruit flavours balanced with vanillian oak but yet long and smooth. Selected premium vineyards experienced ideal growing conditions producing wines of high sugar and flavours. Cool nights providing ideal harvesting conditions.
Winner of 5 wine awards.
Rich, ruby red with hints of crimson. Ripe red berry fruit complexed with mocha and licorice notes. Fragrance and perfume is aided by the Viognier. Plum, blackberry, cherry and cassis are the dominant flavours, with a structure that is tight and tense, allowing the wine to age gracefully for many years.
Lifted spice and ripe mulberry/blackberry aromas are complimented with chocolate, cedar and cinnamon on the nose. Well-integrated oak tannin provides flavours of clove and supple texture, which supports the rich plum, blackberry and mocha. The overall structure is supple and generous with fine-grained tannin and a lingering finish.
Deep garnet in colour, this is a wine of many layers. It shows licorice, blackberry and plum, supported by notes of sandalwood and white pepper. A robust palate, full of chocolate and juicy Satsuma plum with a gravely tannin finish make it a great accompaniment to BBQ T-bone and seasoned wedges.
A delicious and elegant wine that delights the nose and palate with lovely ripe plum flavours with soft tannins and lingering notes of toasty oak characters. A wine that shows a lot of modern styling with the trademark Darling elegance!!.
The recent demarcation of the Darling district has led to a focus at Darling Cellars on wines which are terroir and varietal specific. The cool and temperate West Coast climate lends itself to a different micro- and mesoclimate which, along with the different types of soil, lead to unique grapes, which we guide into even more unique wines. Having 99% of all v...more »ineyards dry land and almost the same percentage as bush vine, this is as close to what nature intended for grapes to be as one can get.
Deep dark plum colour with a brooding nose of dark cherry, raspberry, leather, fennel and spices. The complexity of the nose leads beautifully into the detail of the palate – with chalky tannins and a long thread of acidity pushing through a long mouthfeel. Ripe cherry and red berry, savoury oak and a distinct minerality coat the wines structure core. Opens up wonderfully over time to reveal alluring florals and a svelte texture.
Lovely, deep, black-hued, ruby-red colour
Beautifully fragrant nose with bright, primary fruit, thyme-like herbs and floral allure.
On the palate it’s powerful and impressively rich while remaining beautifully balanced and elegant.
This vintage has produced a Pinot Noir displaying opulent rich aromatics; lush dark fruits of the forest dominate the aroma and these are underpinned by sweet brown spice notes. The wine displays lovely elegance and flow with striking precision and clarity. On the palate it kicks off with a plush dense fruit of the forest entry, this plushness then moves beautifully into the mid palate, after which fine elegant textural tannins frame fruit and acidity on a lengthy finish.
Mt Difficulty Bannockburn Pinot Noir will improve for 7-10 years given optimal vintage and ce...more »llaring conditions.
The growing season in 2013 kicked off with a cool spring. Frosts in early November reduced production from Station Block, at the top of the Cromwell basin, but Bannockburn was untouched. Although the cool spring continued after that, temperatures warmed just before Christmas in time to make for a very successful flowering. January was cooler and wetter than average and then February onwards was very warm and dry. We experienced a protracted veraison (the point at which the grapes stop growing and start to ripen, characterised by colour change) leading to increased variability in ripeness. To counter this we introduced a late colour thin to ensure fruit arrived in optimal condition at harvest. Early autumn returned to more classic settled Central autumnal conditions, and harvest started on the 3rd of April, continuing through until the 3rd of May. It was a normal yielding year, with nice focused acidity and interesting flavour profiles reflecting, to some degree, the variability of the season.
The 2010 Pinot Noir, is rich dark and delicious. Beautifully centered with blackberry and plum flavours, a hint of spice, toasted oak and a velvety finish. Wild bunnies couldn't drag us away from the vintage.
A wonderful buy. Grown at Alexandra and barrel-aged for nine months, it is a beautifully perfumed and deeply coloured red, rich and supple. Sweet-fruited, with concentrated plum/spice flavours, silky tannins and great harmony, it’s a drink now or cellaring proposition. - Reviewed by Michael Cooper author of Buyers Guide to NZ Wine and NZ Wine Atlas www.michaelcooper.co.nz
